I never ever considered myself a sci fi geek, but the more I talk about it with people I’ve worked with, I think I am!
My mum watched Star Trek a lot and I watched it growing up so I know a lot about it. I worked with Kate Mulgrew recently, she played Captain Kathryn Janeway, the only female captain on Voyager, and I was so starstruck - that was when I realised I am actually a nerd.
I went to the dubbing of one of the Star Trek films - I went to listen to the music being recorded by the orchestra, it was the coolest thing ever. OK, yes, I’m definitely a nerd!
“I think I’m going to be in America, so I’ll probably round up all the people who like to watch Doctor Who in the area. We’ll probably watch it and drink PG Tips and eat Jammy Dodgers, if I can get them.”—Karen Gillan on the 50th Anniversary (via anotherdoctorwhofan)
There’s a lot going on with James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy lately. Filming is well underway and there are paparazzi pics to prove it. After a snippet of the Comic-Con trailer leaked a few weeks ago, Guardians of the Galaxy has been climbing to the top of people’s ‘most anticipated movie’ list. While details […]
“Oh, I think probably Karen, because she’s prettier than me. She’s completely bald and she’s all looking rather brilliant. I don’t know, really. Karen’s prettier, isn’t she? I think people would rather look at Karen’s face than mine.”—Matt Smith (x)
IGN: How about Billie Piper [who is returning in the 50th as companion Rose Tyler]? You’ve both had this incredibly unique journey as contemporary companions. What was your experience like working with her?
Coleman: It’s difficult, I don’t want to say too much because I think it might give an inkling away, but she was an absolute delight on set. I think what was so lovely about the 50th was that - and it’s the same with Alex Kingston [the Doctor’s wife, River Song] - it’s not often on the show that I get many girls to hang out with. Except for Vastra and Jenny when we get those characters in sometimes. It’s often me with loads of dudes. So it was great to have Alex on set, and also Billie. It was also great to have an ensemble because so often it’s just me and Matt. It kind of felt like we were hosting this really cool party and in between we’d come back to our seats and we’d have John, and Billie, and David and we’d kind of chat. And they’ve all had this same experience as us, so I suppose there is a kind of shorthand and everyone gets it, if you know what I mean. And I saw Karen [Gillan, who played Amy Pond]. Karen’s in London at the moment [shooting Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy] and me and her and Matt all went out for drinks, which was really lovely. It’s the same thing that Matt says about the next guy, he says he probably wont give too much advice because he wants him to just have the experience.
